detailed itinerary Day 1 We
will meet today at the airport in Bucharest and well drive to the foothills
of Piatra Craiului Mountains, a national park in the Carpathians renown both for
its pristine nature and amazing landscape as for the Large Carnivore Project that
was developed in this area for the past 10 years. Day
2 This day will be spent in Piatra Craiului National Park hiking to Curmatura
Cabin where we will stay overnight. The hike today will give us many opportunities
to admire the limestone ridge of the mountain that dominates the region from over
2200 meter high (7200 feet) and to look for rare species of flowers like the edelweiss
and Garofita Pietrei Craiului, an endemism found nowhere else in the world. Day
3 Today we are descending from the main
ridge of the mountain, following old shepherd paths but well remain inside
the National Park. Crossing dense beech and pine forests we will head to the mountain
villages that are part of the park. Day
4 Two big mountain ranges surround the town
of Brasov: Bucegi and Piatra Craiului. Today well start our descend to the
main valley that separates the two massives. Our hike will takes us to one of
the most famous landmarks of Romania, Bran Castle, renowned for its rugged look
and subsequent non-existent connection with Prince Vlad the Impaler. Well
continue up the valley near the castle to a small traditional guesthouse where
we will stay for the night. Day 5 &
6 We hike on moderate trails in the Bucegi
mountains along a dramatic scenic route with glorious views of Piatra Craiului
and the peaks of Bucegi, crossing alpine meadows and beautiful remote passes.
We will stay at the lively mountain lodge Malaiesti. At 1720 meter up (5643 feet)
the lodge offers spectacular views of the northern walls of the massif. The next
day hike will take us down to Busteni, on Prahova Valley. Well head to Brasov
for overnight staying. Day 7 We
take a day to enjoy Brasovs medieval surroundings. Well spent our
last day visiting the old citadel of the town with its amazing main square and
beautiful architecture. We will also visit two amazing fortified Saxon churches
built in the early 13th century around Brasov. Day
8 We depart today to Bucharest and say goodbye. |
